Turning them on
Start the film, tap the screen, and open the speech-bubble or Audio and Subtitles menu. Pick English, Hindi or another language under Subtitles. The same menu holds the audio tracks.
Watching across languages
Subtitles open up every shelf: a Tamil thriller like Maharaja, a Malayalam comedy like Premalu, a Marathi classic like Sairat or a Chinese epic like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon all come with English subtitles on the major services.
Making them easy to read
Most apps let you change the size and background of subtitles in their settings, and phones and TVs have caption settings in their accessibility menus too.
Captions
Closed captions add sound descriptions for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, and they are available on most Hollywood films and many Hindi ones.
